Warriors Sign Maxon Vig to Tender

Jun 8, 2023

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Warriors are pleased to announce the tender signing of defenseman Maxon (Max) Vig for the 2023-24 season.

“Most of all, the thing that attracted me to Oklahoma is that the staff cares and they want to coach me,” said Vig. “It’s going be great for my development. They want to help me find success.”

Vig, 17, captained the Century High School Patriots (Bismarck, N.D.) and recorded 47 (16G+31A) points in 27 games from the blue line during the 2022-23 season.

The North Dakota native plays a complete game from the back end, and uses his 6’2”, 187-pound frame to make an impact wherever he is on the ice.

“I am a very offensive defenseman and I like to jump up in the play but I also take pride in the physical part of the game,” said Vig. “I like to set the tone quickly. Whether it’s a reverse hit or going in hard, [opponents know] they’re going to feel it. If they go into the corner with me it’s not going to be easy.”

Vig, who has skated since he was 2-years-old, expressed his excitement for the transition into fast-paced junior hockey, and is ready to contribute in every part of the game.

I’m looking forward to moving pucks up quickly, and possessing the puck on the blueline to make the best plays for my team’s and my own success. I’m going to make my presence known, whether that’s the physical part of the game or jumping up into a play. I’m going to make sure that every night I’m contributing, whether that’s by defending against goals or scoring them.

While Vig played both baseball and hockey growing up, the decision to continue his hockey career, and follow in his father’s footsteps (who played hockey for the University of North Dakota) so-to-speak, was an easy one. Max’s connections to Warriors head coach and general manager Garrett Roth, and 2022-23 Warrior Blaise Miller, made the decision to sign a tender with Oklahoma an easy one as well.

“Not only do I want to play there, but they want me to be there too,” said Vig. “I know they’ll help me develop into the best player I can be.”
