Warriors Rebound, Romp IceRays 6-1

Nov 13, 2023

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas–The Oklahoma Warriors doused the Corpus Christi IceRays 6-1 at American Bank Center on Saturday.

With both of Oklahoma’s trips to Corpus Christi now complete, the victory secured a 3-1 head-to-head record for the Warriors inside American Bank Center. The five-goal margin of victory is the most lopsided of the series thus far.

After a disappointing 4-2 loss on Friday, the Warriors set the tone immediately on Saturday. Riley Brueck fed Owen Carlile for a one-time goal in the slot on the opening shift. Oklahoma led 25 seconds into the game and would not trail all night.

Corpus Christi tied the game later in the first period, and the 1-1 tie ensued for more than 25 minutes. It took special teams to end the deadlock. With under four minutes remaining in the second, Cooper Boulanger created a steal on the Warriors’ penalty kill. The lefty carried the puck down the middle and backhanded it home. In the final minute of the period, Boulanger struck again on a cross-ice pass from Bryce Howard to extend the lead.

In the third period, Dominic Elliott, Carter Sproule, and Kaden Nelson all scored for Oklahoma. Elliott’s goal was his first as a Warrior and first in the North American Hockey League. Ollie Chessler also logged a fight for good measure.

Daniel Duris made 24 saves on 25 shots to end another outstanding weekend in net. The third-year Warrior went 49-for-52 in the series. Oklahoma outshot Corpus Christi 34-25 on Saturday.

The Oklahoma Warriors are home against the Corpus Christi IceRays on Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18. The team will wear specialty jerseys to benefit The Toby Keith Foundation and OK Kids Korral. Puck drops at 7:15 p.m. at Blazers Ice Centre in Oklahoma City.
