Mar 4, 2024

OKLAHOMA CITY–The Oklahoma Warriors split a two-game weekend with the Shreveport Mudbugs at Blazers Ice Centre.

The Warriors defeated Shreveport 6-4 in come-from-behind fashion on Friday before falling 5-2 on Saturday.

After scoring the first goal on Friday, the Warriors came from behind three separate times to tie the game late in regulation. Brandon Reller scored his first goal as a Warrior with six minutes remaining to tie things at 4-4. In the final minute, Geno McEnery banged home a loose puck during a net-front scramble to give the Warriors the lead. Max Vig added an empty-netter to seal the victory.

Saturday’s game also saw the Warriors score the first goal, but the 1-0 lead would be their only lead of the night. Shreveport scored four unanswered goals to create an insurmountable advantage. Kaden Nelson, who tallied two assists on Friday, scored both Oklahoma goals on Saturday. Nelson leads the team with 22 goals.

Vig and Nelson led the way with two goals and two assists each. Owen Bartoszkiewicz started both games in net and picked up his first victory as an Oklahoma Warrior on Friday.

The Warriors wore one-of-a-kind Special Olympics and Law Enforcement Torch Run-themed jerseys throughout the weekend. Every jersey was auctioned off with proceeds going to benefit Special Olympics athletes in the state of Oklahoma.

The team is on the road for the next two weeks before returning home for six consecutive games. Oklahoma faces Corpus Christi on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 at Blazers Ice Centre. Tickets are available now at www.oklahomawarriors.com/tickets.
