Duris Stops 21, Warriors Shut Out Colorado

OKLAHOMA CITY–The Oklahoma Warriors shut out the Colorado Grit 6-0 at Blazers Ice Centre on Saturday for their first home win of the 2023-24 season.

Daniel Duris stopped all 21 shots he faced in the victory. Six different Warriors–Landon Fleming, Brayden Berg, Drew Sutton, Kaden Nelson, Max Dronen, and Zach Homer–scored a goal each. Drew Sutton (pictured) led the way with four points.

“I am really proud of our guys for your effort tonight,” Warriors head coach Garrett Roth said. “We were able to rebound after a tough game last night. It was nice to get the win.”

Oklahoma looked the part of a much better hockey team on Saturday. The team doubled up Colorado in shots, 42-21, and opened up the scoring in the first six minutes. The scoring was not just balanced individually, too: the Warriors scored two goals in each of the game’s three periods.

“(We bounced back) with energy and intensity,” Roth said. “I thought we competed really hard today. We worked, we supported the puck, we were not selfish, we moved the puck, and we were able to make plays.”

The Warriors’ power play, a struggling unit when the game began, put the game out of reach when it mattered. Colorado committed a major penalty late in the second period. Oklahoma scored two power play goals in the ensuing five minutes to stretch a 3-0 lead to 5-0.

With the win, the Warriors split the two-game series with the Grit to open up the home schedule. Next up is a road trip to Albuquerque, N.M. for two games against the New Mexico Ice Wolves. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30. The next home weekend is October 13-14 against El Paso.
