Warriors Dominate Wranglers, Take 2-0 Series Lead

OKLAHOMA CITY – William Lawson-Body had three assists and the Oklahoma Warriors took Game 2 of the 2023 Robertson Cup South Division Semi-Final against the Amarillo 6-2 at Blazers Ice Centre Saturday.

The Warriors went up 1-0 on a powerplay goal at 8:22 and wouldn’t look back. Garrett Horsager blasted a point shot that bounced off of Lawson-Body, then William Ahlrik to open the scoring for a second straight night. A little over four minutes later, Drew Sutton made it 2-0. Joey DelGreco set up a Therien Thiesing shot, which bounced off the end wall and found Sutton in a fortunate spot to pot the rebound.

Oklahoma added to its lead over two minutes and eight seconds into the middle period to pull ahead further. Owen Baumgartner sent a cross-ice pass to Malte Hasselgren, who powered ahead through neutral ice and set up Mikko Liukkonen on a backdoor tip-in for the 3-0 lead. Amarillo answered with a powerplay goal to make a game of it two and a half minutes later. Owen Dyer then scored to stretch the game to 4-1. Adam Smith kept the point on an Amarillo dump-attempt, and had a shot blocked toward Dyer. The Clarkston, Michigan, native walked his way in on the far side of the zone and roofed a shot with 9:53 remaining. Amarillo got another before the end of the second, but the Warriors took a 4-2 lead into the third.

Horsager scored on a slapshot early in the third for Oklahoma’s fifth goal. DelGreco moved it down low to Lawson-Body, who set up Horsager 81 ticks into the final frame. Brendan Williams finished the night off on a 2-on-0 with Lawson-Body from Rylan Brady at 13:53 of the third.

The Warriors have a chance to sweep the Wranglers in Amarillo at the Budweiser Bull Pen Friday April 28 at 7:15 p.m.
