Baumgartner Makes History, Warriors Take Point From Mudbugs

Apr 1, 2023

OKLAHOMA CITY – Owen Baumgartner became the North American Hockey League’s All-Time Defensemen Point Leader with an assist when the Oklahoma Warriors hosted the Shreveport Mudbugs at Blazers Ice Centre Friday.

Baumgartner’s historic mark came after he finessed his way past two Mudbugs defenders up ice, then set up William Ahlrik with a cross-ice feed at 6:43 of the first period. Baumgartner secured history, becoming the first NAHL defenseman to score 119 points in a career on the back-end. The Warriors took their 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Shreveport responded in a big way in the second period, flipping the script for a 3-1 game with 5:35 left in the second. Hunter Jones responded from Brendan Williams to make a 3-2 game three minutes and two seconds later, but Oklahoma would head to the third down by one.

Garrett Horsager blasted in his sixth powerplay goal of the season, from Joey DelGreco, 5:40 into the third period to tie the game 3-3, and eventually send the game to overtime.

Shreveport took the extra point 35 seconds into the fourth frame.

The two teams will meet Saturday, April 1, at Blazers Ice Centre for a 7:15 p.m. puck drop. The Oklahoma Warriors will be celebrating April Fools’ Day with a “Mudbug Eating Contest” on the ice with fresh crawfish donated by The Crawfish Pot, located at 2142 W Interstate 240 Service Rd, Oklahoma City, OK 73159.
