Warriors Sweep League-Leading Brahmas

Jan 8, 2024

OKLAHOMA CITY–The Oklahoma Warriors kicked off 2024 with a pair of home wins over the top team in the North American Hockey League.

The Warriors defeated the Lone Star Brahmas 3-2 and 4-3 at Blazers Ice Centre on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Oklahoma has won four consecutive home games.

Friday’s game saw the Warriors climb back from an early two-goal deficit. Adam Severson scored his first career goal in the second period, then Dominic Elliott tied the game in the third. In the five-round shootout, Drew Sutton, William Ahlrik, and Owen Carlile all scored. The shootout victory gave goaltender Billy Stuski his first NAHL win in his third career start.

On Saturday, Oklahoma exploded with a four-goal second period. Carlile, Landon Fleming, Kaden Nelson, and Ahlrik combined for only the second four-goal period this season. An already impressive accomplishment, the Warriors did it against a Lone Star defense that entered play allowing only 1.7 goals per game.

Lone Star made things close with a pair of third-period goals, but Oklahoma locked down with multiple saves and shot blocks in the final minutes to hold on. In his first appearance since December 16, Daniel Duris earned the win in net.

The Warriors became just the second team to sweep Lone Star in a two-game series this season. They improve their home record to 8-2-3 and move up to fifth place in the south division standings.

Oklahoma travels to North Richland Hills, Texas to face the Brahmas on Friday, January 12 and Saturday, January 13. The team is back home for Military Appreciation Weekend on Friday, January 19 and Saturday, January 20 against the Odessa Jackalopes. Fans can purchase tickets at www.oklahomawarriors.com/tickets.
