Feb 25, 2023

OKLAHOMA CITY – Despite comeback attempts from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits, the Oklahoma Warriors’ 15-game win streak came to an end with a 5-3 loss to the New Mexico Ice Wolves Friday.

New Mexico started its scoring with a goal six and a half minutes in, and then added another late in the period to make a 2-0 lead going into the intermission.

Oklahoma responded well in the second period, and Drew Sutton scored two powerplay goals to tie the game before once again, a late Wolves goal gave the visitors a lead. For his first, Sutton scored off a rebound from Garrett Horsager and William Ahlrik just 4:48 into the period. Three minutes and 10 seconds later, Sutton scored on a one-timer from Joey Delgreco after William Ahlrik won a faceoff. New Mexico jumped ahead with 2:22 left in the frame to take a 3-2 lead into the third.

The Warriors would tie the game again when Rylan Brady tipped the puck in just above the crease over seven minutes into the period. Therien Thiesing started the play and Brendan Williams streaked up the near side of the ice from center before lobbing the puck toward Brady for the tying goal. With one minute and 54 seconds left, the Ice Wolves scored a heartbreaker to go up 4-3.

The Warriors and Ice Wolves will meet for the second of the two game series Saturday at 7:15 p.m. at Blazers Ice Centre. The Warriors will finish the weekend with a 5:30 p.m. puck drop against the Lone Star Brahmas at Blazers Ice Centre.
