Mar 12, 2023

OKLAHOMA CITY- Will Brenner and Domenick Evtimov each scored their first goals as Warriors and Oklahoma’s defensemen scored four to push the Oklahoma Warriors to a 6-1 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays at Blazers Ice Centre Saturday.

Therien Thiesing opened the game’s scoring with a point blast from Owen Carlile at 8:04 of the first frame. Ninety seconds later, the Warriors offense set up a pretty passing play to make it 2-0. Rylan Brady reversed a behind-the-back pass to William Lawson-Body down low, before Brendan Williams finished the play with a tip-in across the slot. Oklahoma would go up 3-0 with just under nine minutes remaining in the frame with William Ahlrik putting in an Owen Baumgartner rebound. Malte Hasselgren set up the play to Baumgartner for the secondary assist. Corpus Christi answered to make the game 3-1 after 20 minutes of play.

Thiesing got on the board again, to begin the second period with a powerplay goal. Lawson-Body chased his own rebound to the wall before sending it across the ice to Theising, who let it fly for his seventh of the season at 7:33. With about six minutes left in the second, Brenner scored his first goal as a Warrior with a blueline blast from Brady and Ahlrik.

Despite numerous cracks at the net and a game-high six shots, Thiesing wouldn’t finish off his hat trick bid, but his shot off the post with five seconds remaining found Evtimov in a fortunate spot, and Evtimov scored his first as a Warrior to give Oklahoma a 6-1 final.

The Warriors will host the Amarillo Wranglers for a three game set March 16-18 which will see the Warriors wearing St. Patrick’s Day themed jerseys that will be auctioned off through a live auction on the ice following Saturday’s game.
